The Shelter Rock Youth Development’s “Craft Your Own Future Course” is centred on each learner being guided to create their own career goals, with a realistic understanding of how to achieve their career objectives.

With reference to prior learning in Grades 7 and 8, the course is focused on Grade 9 topics, with particular emphasis on the curriculum requirements for Terms 2, 3 and 4.
The Life Orientation curriculum assessment requirements specifies that learners must design and produce an actual product, for example (as quoted in the curriculum) “Describe yourself by using pictures, photos, drawings and text on your poster: goals relating to personal lifestyle and future career”.

Learners will each create their own “Vision board” relating to their ideal career and will have a clear understanding of how to approach their futures.

In addition, the natural environment, the mountain trail and other options available at Shelter Rock provide an opportunity to meet Physical Education (PE) assessment criteria.

From the curriculum: “The aim of the Physical education component of the curriculum is to encourage learners to perform in a wide range of activities associated with the development of an active and healthy lifestyle. It also aims to develop learners’ confidence and generic skills, especially those of collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking and aesthetic appreciation. These, together with the nurturing of positive values and attitudes in PE, provide a good foundation for learners’ lifelong and life-wide learning.”

The “Craft Your Own Future” course offers an assessment opportunity aligned with an aspect of the second criterion for PE, and our guides will assist in evaluating the outcome of movement performance according to curriculum guidelines.
